Chess Engine Release v0.6
Martin has a new alpha release of the Chess Engine that is much improved. It features a more efficient heuristic algorithm, quiescent searching, as well as a more sophisticated evaluation function. When set to its top level, it searches a minimum of 5-ply ahead and continues indefinitely for particularly critical configurations. Now have a go at running it in Opera, FF, IE6 and IE7. Which of these browsers do you think is currently more efficient as a 'computing platform' ? Read more
AppsBuilder Build 0.8.7.x
There have been a number of emails requesting an update on the upcoming WebOS AppsBuilder release and what will be incorporated in it. So we thought why not give you a preview on what is to be included. Internally the build is currently at 0.8.7.4 and we expect a couple more internal builds before a general release to Pioneers for evaluation and testing. This release is to be a major release and will address among other things the following:
1. Support for external Microsoft SQL databases 2. Support for external Firebird 2.0 databases 3. Support for Free Pascal & Borland Delphi 4. Support for foreign languages 5. New Project Wizard giving numerous options including selecting datasource type, language of choice, target platform compiler etc etc.
It is worth saying that the current build is already being used by selected Morfik Pioneers and Explorers to develop extensions and production applications. Their contribution will ease your transition to what will undoubtedly be a significant WebOS AppsBuilder release
Richard MacManus on ZDNet blog
"Morfik tests browser boundaries - builds Javascript chess app" wrote Richard MacManus on his ZDNet Blog, and many others have since linked to it. Since the blog a new build of the Chess application has been posted in Labs to permit 4-ply look ahead plus up to an additional 2-ply for particularly critical (quiescent) moves sequences. Again this is as yet not a demonstration of a JavaScript Grandmaster, which requires at least 12-ply depth of search. In order to achieve a 4-ply search, we had to resolve a JavaScript timing issue in browsers, as they have an in-built barrier to 'extensive computing' - it causes the error - "A script on this page may be too busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now or continue". This fix is important as the barrier to extending the look-ahead search to 12-ply is now removed and it is just a matter of time - program authoring time and CPU execution time.
The Morfik Developer's Handbook v0.6.1
Mauricio Longo has made a few updates to the Morfik Developer's Handbook, primarily by providing some sample examples of applications using Morfik Basic. As you will already know, you can mix languages in an XApp, i.e. you can have Java, Basic, Pascal and C# all in one Morfik application. Everybody in your organization can be productive in the development of an XApp! The updated Handbook is available for download.
