Morfik Developer's Handbook v0.7.2
A new release of the Handbook is now available for download. It has been updated to cover the new project wizards in 0.8.7.6 and the appendix includes all the code for Morfik Basic, C#, Java and Pascal compiler test projects. It is intended as a reference for how all major commands and language constructs are implemented in the Morfik WebOS. You may also like to note that the TOC has changed to include new upcoming chapters and appendices.
Release of AppsBuilder Build 0.8.7.6
A little late, but worth the wait :-) As promised this is a major release and I am sure it will raise a few comments and queries on the forum. Please read the release notes for more detail, but in summary these are the new features which have been surfaced so far:
1. Support for external Firebird 2.0 databases, either via ODBC or the built-in IBO methods 2. Support, via ODBC, for existing external databases such as MS SQL, Oracle and mySQL. 3. Support for foreign languages 4. New target platform allowing a choice in compiler path. 5. New Project Wizard offering a matrix of options. 6. Performance improvements in handling large databases.
Which means....that there are a few things which have been embedded into the AppsBuilder and will be surfaced over the next couple of months as more testing is completed.
Have fun and if you want to register to be a tester in your specific area of interest e.g. Oracle, please let us know so that we can support you.
WebOS AppsBuilder meets Script.aculo.us
Stoicho has developed a sample project showing how to integrate 3rd party JavaScript library with the WebOS AppsBuilder. He has used effects.js from Script.aculo.us to apply some cool effects on WebOS AppsBuilder controls. See the application here. For the source code please go to Dev2DEV, Sample XApps and for more background to the project please read Stoicho's blog.
Support for Dojo, Yahoo!UI and Zapatec Component Libraries
An oft repeated request by Morfik developers has been support for third-party AJAX component libraries. We have now placed in Labs some sample examples of how controls from Zapatec, Dojo and Yahoo!UI could be integrated into an XApp. You can now incorporate - Menus, Tabs, Grids, Calendars, Sliders etc etc - controls from specialized vendors into your XApps if you wish.
Richard MacManus on Why Google and Microsoft need Javascript compilers
As web applications grow more and more sophisticated, with lots of user interaction, it gets harder and harder to hand code it all in Javascript. Back when Javascript was conceived as a macro language for web pages, web apps were much less interactive than they are today. So even though it is possible to write very complex applications directly in Javascript - it is hard work and to most programmers is just not practical. Read Richard's blog on ZDNet
At Morfik we believe that our success depends on your success. That is why we have created the Morfik Developer Assist programme.

Morfik is pure magic for building, developing, and deploying better, cheaper Web-enabled apps.
Providing a neat server-based solution without a stack of costly software and licensing proved critical to Bigdog’s needs, and Morfik was able to deliver with a minimum of fuss. “Morfik provides a 'switch' that can deploy to Linux or Windows-based servers – absolutely golden in our case.” “The fact that Morfik allows the designer and programmer to be one and the same person is also a huge plus and the level of technical support from the Morfik team has, for me, been unequalled by any other vendor I've dealt with for the last 15 years.”
