Michael Duncan
Cyraenian Software and Computer Services
Beyond compare for speed and development ease
Finding Delphi, ASP.NET and Sharepoint rather clumsy and tedious, Michael Duncan was looking for a new IDE in which to develop intranet sites when a colleague suggested he take a closer look at Morfik. The President of US firm Cyraenian Software and Computer Services is now a dedicated Morfik user, exclusively creating sophisticated and highly functional websites quickly and efficiently with his newfound development tool. Why? “Morfik is far ahead of any competition I have seen out there,” he declares.
Coming from Michael, that’s high praise indeed, because it’s clear he’s a man who knows his way around software development. Originally a high school maths teacher, in 1980 he began creating custom software programming for IBM System 23, 34, 36, 38 and AS400 in BASIC, RPG, COBOL, FORTRAN, to name a mere few of the languages in which he is well versed. 1985 saw him form a highly successful company with three colleagues to develop Turbo Pascal software for debit and credit card processing. When the company was purchased in 1995, Michael turned his hand to Delphi, creating commercial websites and applications predominately for the mortgage industry.
Michael says he feels very comfortable with Morfik, having been a Delphi developer for over a decade. “I was looking to develop a very tight and quick intranet application with great presentation that would allow access to important documents, newsfeeds, local loan processing files, rate sheets and other in-house information. To do it in Sharepoint would mean a significant expenditure creating clunky, custom components to achieve my goal,” he explains further.
“By contrast, Morfik allowed me to create the front end (including some awesome in-line editing of records), and Windows services in Delphi to gather local information and newsfeeds,” Michael adds. “I was delighted to discover I could develop an elegant and themed user interface without having to use a graphics program or hire a graphic artist – essentially saving me time and money for a much better result!”
With two Morfik-made commercial sites about to go live - www.younggeezers.com (created with Morfik version 1) and www.silentauctionsonthenet.com (using Morfik v. 2 beta) – Michael’s now spreading the good word: “I’ve encouraged every ASP.NET developer I know to take a look at Morfik and throw away the shackles of MS developer tools – there’s really no comparison in terms of speed of development and ease of deployment.”
